Important Updates

We have important news and updates to share with you regarding our Community Center Project and the state of Haiti.

Community Center Project Postponement

Since the tragic assassination of Haiti's President, Jovenel Moïse, in 2021, Port-au-Prince has been mired in chaos. The pervasive influence of gangs has exacerbated issues such as gun violence, sexual assault, and abductions. Among those most affected are our scholarship recipients residing in Citè Soleil, who find themselves in harms way, often facing violence during their journeys to and from school.

This dire situation continues to profoundly impact the community, driving many to seek refuge in rural areas. Due to the continued escalation of this unfortunate situation, we have decided to postpone the launch of our Community Center Project. While this decision saddens us, we believe it is the safest choice. Launching this project right now could put a target on our staff due to the publicity of them working with Americans. Moreover, gangs have disrupted other organizations, stealing resources and interrupting their workflows.

Food for our Programming is at Risk

As mentioned above, organizations are facing disruptions due to the chaotic state. This includes PNCS, a Haitian government entity that has been supplying meals for our mentorship and yoga programs. Their resources are being stolen by gangs, rendering them unable to collaborate with us temporarily.

To ensure that children participating in our programs receive substantial meals, including staples like rice, beans, and vegetables, we are seeking to raise funds to be able to supply the meals ourselves.

The estimated annual cost of sustaining this initiative is $1,500.

Help us reach this goal by participating in our 5k fundraiser on October 21st!

In the past, this event has been strictly virtual. This year virtual will still be an option but we will be hosting various in-person meet-ups throughout the US where From Roots to Wings staff will be participating.

Education Program Expansion

Despite the current circumstances, our education programs have continued to grow. Thanks to your continued support, we can expand our program by offering scholarships to an additional 5 children.

All children will receive a scholarship to attend school and mentorship sessions twice a week. Help us provide substantial meals during our mentorship sessions by participating in our 5k fundraiser!

Two children previously part of our education program will no longer need our scholarship services. Rebecca’s family now has the ability to fund her school, which means we can offer the scholarship to another family in need. We hope to continue to see Rebecca during our Yoga and Sports Programs.

Charma

Charma, a student we have been working with since incorporation temporarily moved to the countryside due to the dangers in Port-au-Prince. Charma’s scholarship will resume upon her return.

Thank you for your continued investment and support!
