Programs
Educational
Education is a human right. We provide merit-based scholarships to children who seldom have the resources and financial means to obtain an education. To ensure we are creating sustainable opportunities, the children in our Scholarship Program attend mentorship twice a week.
Scholarships
Due to the private education system in Haiti, families have to cover the cost of tuition, school supplies, uniforms, and exams for children to attend school. Our Scholarship Program covers these costs. On average, providing primary education costs approximately $200 USD per child per school year. The scholarship is awarded to children whose families live in the area we work in and are unable to afford these expenses on their own. Click the button below to invest in a child’s education!
Mentorship
We realized providing educational opportunities should not be limited to attending school; children need additional tools and resources for sustainable success. The Mentorship Program was created to fill the gaps and provide the children with the mental, emotional, and educational guidance they need to flourish, including individualized check-ins and tutoring. Our Scholarship recipients are assigned a mentor group based on age and grade level that meets twice each week. Click here to invest in a child's mentorship!
Health and wellness
We encourage children in the community to be empowered and educated about their health through various interactive programs. These programs aim to encourage mindfulness, exercise, and teamwork. Our health and wellness initiatives are held once a week and a small lunch is provided.
Yoga
Our Yoga Program aims to provide children in the community a weekly break from stress, a time to feel safe, and a time to breathe. Additionally, it gives children the opportunity to learn ways to manage stress. Approximately 30 children from the local community participate and this program continues to grow. Ismael “Showdy'' Stjour, one of our Cofounders, instructs our yoga class every Saturday. One of the students, Samuel Phele, who started as a participant was trained by Showdy to become an additional instructor. Click the button below to invest in community yoga!
Sports
Due to increased social unrest and gang violence, we recognized the importance of giving children in the community a safe place to play. Seeing the benefits that our Yoga Program provided we wanted to increase our impact. The program is held every Saturday immediately following the Yoga Program. The children attending are offered the choice of soccer, American football, frisbee, or hula hooping. Click here to invest in a child’s right to play safely!
economic
We quickly realized that most of our programming was focused on ending the cycle of poverty for the next generation, however, parents and families are being impacted by poverty today. In response, we started our Microloan Program in which we offer no-interest loans to start a small business or expand an existing business.
Microloans
Our Microloans Program will provide the capital means, with no interest, to assist Haitians in building their businesses. Every candidate must pass a rigorous review of their financial capabilities, prior to being approved. Upon approval, the funds will be granted to the individuals based on agreed terms and conditions. This program is intended to promote self-sufficiency and economic growth in Haiti. Although Haiti is a free market economy, most Haitians find it difficult to make a sustainable income. Many factors including political instability, corruption, and lack of infrastructure, often result in violence and damage. With inadequate or expensive resources, productivity and economic success for Haitians is significantly hindered.
After our experience from piloting this program, we are going to be shifting gears by launching a "loan group". This group will attend business education classes, run by members of our Haitian staff, which will prepare them to run their businesses more profitably and efficiently. For any individual in a group to receive a second loan, all individuals in that group must pay back their original loan. We hope this will encourage teamwork and peer learning amongst the group.
